Abstract

The preheating zone of a rotary inclined cement kiln is provided with helical lifting channels from which particles cascade to establish a series of curtains extending at an acute angle, such as 15 degrees to 25 degrees, to the kiln axis. The hot gases become supersaturated with particles in passing through each curtain, and the particles in the gas stream are either carried through succeeding curtains or deposited but the stream remains supersaturated. Any particles in the gas stream emerging from the kiln are recovered and fed back to the kiln. The recirculation in the preheating zone allows the use of shorter kilns.
