Abstract

Cement-raw materials are fired in a multi-step process comprising a preheating, calcining, clinker building, and a clinker cooling. A stream of air is fed through the preheating, calcining and clinker building vessesl in reverse order, counter current to the raw material stream at such a velocity that the raw material powder is held suspended and the clinker particles reach a predetermined size or wt. The preheating vessel comprises two sub. vessels a direct preheater warmed by air leaving the calcining vessel and an indirect preheater warmed by air leaving the direct preheater and the clinker building vessel. The raw material stream divides to the preheaters, and are recombined after to enter the calcining vessel. The proportion entering the direct compared with the indirect preheating is adjustable. The direct preheater contains chambers feeding in cascade down through the preheater. The indirect preheater comprises a chamber surrounded by a larger vessel, the space between carrying the heating air.
