Abstract

Cabucinic acid esters of formula (I): (where R is alkyl) are used to form therapeutic compositions containing as active component cabucine, the methyl ester of cabucinic acid. The basic esters are prepared by reaction of cabucinic acid as the zwitterion, isolated at the isoelectric point, with a beta-aminoethyl halide (X = halogen) in an organic solvent in presence of an alkaline carbonate which is insoluble in the solvent.
