Abstract

The total length of a rotary kiln installation is considerably reduced by fitting up to ten auxiliary tubes round the circumference of the main cylinder between the entry and combustion zones. The material is deflected by a baffle into half the tubes down which it passes and is returned along the remaining tubes to enter the combustion zone beyond the baffle. Compared with the use of a separate pre-heating installation, there is no problem of sealing between the two sections. Construction is lighter, and less ancillary plant is required.
