Abstract

Cpds. of gen. formula (I): (where R1 and R2 are same alkyl (1-4C); or R1 = phenylalkyl (7-8C) or phenyl and R2 = H, opt. branched alkyl (1-6C) or phenyl; R1+R2+C may form a satd. carbocyclic 5-6 membered ring; R3 = H or alkoxy (1-4C); R4 = H or forms together with R3 6,7-oxymethylene, are prepd. by cyclisation of cpds. (IIa) where Y = opt. substd. amino, O- or S- alkyl, or S-phenyl; by reaction with an acid catalyst such as polyphosphoric acid, phosphoroxychloride, conc. H2SO4 or Lewis acids. Reaction in inert solvent at -15 degrees to 150 degrees C.
