Abstract

The leak is indicated by the presence of hydrogen in the sodium and is detected by the diffusion of the hydrogen through a membrane associated with a mass spectrometer. A frontal plate is traversed by the circulating tubes which are distributed in the form of a square network. A second plate carries partitions forming compartments around clusters of tubes. Sampling tubes, running in two directions at right angles, can draw small samples of sodium from each compartment. Any leak is shown by the presence of hydrogen and its location can be determined by reference to the squares. Most of the leaks occur at the junction of the tubes with the frontal plate in a highly stressed zone.
