Abstract

The entire body of a liquid is passed through a flow path and its zeta-potential is determined. The zeta-potential is adjusted to a predetermined value to cause flocculation and coagulation of colloidal particles. The ionic charge of the entire body is continuously scanned by measuring the ionic charge in the flowing liquid without removing any liquid from the flowing body. This measurement is taken at a predetermined position in the flow path and the variation in zeta-potential is controlled by the addition of chemical additives to the liquid in accordance with the variations in zeta-potential as determined by the scanning.
