Abstract

Textile fibres are bleached by a peroxide cpd. in organic solvent consisting of at least one 1-4C alkyl ester and organic acids, (acetic or formic). Alkyl esters are ethyl propyl, butyl acetates. Peroxides are H2O2, monoperacetic acid or monoperphthalic acid. Treatment time is pref. 5-15 min. at temp. between ambient and solvent b.pt. The process replaces water as cleaning medium giving reduced effluent and smaller heat requirements for drying.
