Abstract

An automatic sampling and/or testing unit is fitted into a programmed, automatic handling system which brings flasks, one at a time to a reading head which detects and signals to a controller the optical or magnetic instructions marked in code on the flask; the programmed controller accordingly, either passes the flask on to the operational unit or, if the flask does not call for the current operation, returns the flask to storage to come forward again later. A flask which goes through the operational unit is then either discharged, or returned to store for subsequent, operations. A series of repeat tests with mixed flask instructions is carried out continuously and at a high rate of output without operator attention.
