Abstract
Polyesters esp. polyethylene terephthalate, contain as heat-stabiliser dichlor(di-2-pyridylamine) copper (II), Cu left brace NH(C5H4N)2 right brace Cl2 or bis-(di-2-pyridylamine) copper (II) chloride, Cu left brace NH(C5H4N)2 right brace 2 Cl2, in amount corresp. to 0.005-0.05, pref. 0.005-0.035% Cu. The polymer esp. has an intrinsic molar viscosity of 0.80 dl./g. minimum. The stabiliser is coated on the polyester granules before extrusion-spinning or added during esterification of the aromatic dibasic acid with polyol. Polyester fibres are obtained with excellent resistance against ammonolysis, hydrolysis, thermal and oxidative breakdown. They are esp. resistant to ageing when incorporated in rubber prods. e.g. conveyor belts and esp. tyres, which are subjected to strong heating in use.
