Abstract

Automatic transfer of tiny, measured sample of liquid to or from a test tube. The test tube moves axially into coaction with a fixed piston having a hollow piston rod through which liquid is pumped by continuation of the relative axial movement. Swept air above the liquid surface being greater than the volume of the passage through the piston rod. The test tube can be completely emptied and only the nose of the hollow piston rod contacts the sample, so little cleaning is required. The system is particularly advantageous for samples of less than 500 microlitres.
