Abstract

Cathode frame exit flow is connected via an overflow to a separate vertical electrically insulated, otherwise closed pref. rectangular chamber, in which the overflowing liquor is made to fall over a series of horizontal baffles in cascade formation, and which has to its middle a vertical support plate reaching from its bottom to the overflow level, carrying on both sides horizontal baffles of alternating different lengths, the cascade fitting being pref. of synthetic, rubber, or plastic coated material. The falling caustic/brine stream so broken up into droplets, ultimately collects in the bottom channel of this chamber for discharge from the cell. Process replaces low throughput, fault prone, or cumbersome arrangements used to prevent electrical current leakage, esp. in bipolar electrolysis cells for NaCl Sol. across the discharging caustic liquor/brine stream by breaking it up into droplets, are replaced.
