Abstract

A body of expanded cellular metal, is provided with a coating layer of synthetic plastic material. This composite has wide application e.g. for indoor and outdoor panelling, flooring, freight or passenger vehicle compartments, the forming of special surfaces e.g. antifriction, fluorescent or the like, and for bonding further layers. Pref. the expanded cellular metal is aluminium which may be alloyed with 6-8% magnesium. The coating penetrates into the surface pores of the metal which average 1/32 to 3/32 inch size. Pores of the metal which of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin, fibre glass reinforced polyester resin, and a condensation product of formaldehyde and melamine. Decorative panels may be made with embedded aluminium foil or crushed rock. The strength of the metal base is increased.
