Abstract

In the parent patent a rotating immersed bacterial bed is formed from a cluster of plastic tubes which rotate about a horizontal axis, here the rotational drive is simple and efficient and there is no necessity for a shaft immersed in the bath. The cluster is surrounded by two girth rings which serve as tracks for >=2 pairs of rollers situated above the cluster, the latter having a density which is sufficiently low for it to be lifted, by the liq. in which it is immersed, into contact with the rollers. As there is no immersed shaft, no packing-boxes are needed; all the mechanical elements for rotating the cluster being located outside the bath and being easily accessible. The tubes are 1m long and are slightly inclined to the axis of rotation like the elements of a spiral with a very long pitch.
