Abstract

The needle includes a hook formation defining a gap within which is located a pair of clamping plates biassed together and slidable on a pin so that a loop of weft yarn gathered by the hook formation passes between the clamping plates and runs around the pin. A transverse bore extending completely through the needle connects with the gap defined by the hook formation to allow ready removal of waste fibres collected by the clamping plates and pin to prevent a build-up of fibres which could affect smooth operation of the needle. Pref. the median plane of the bore is arranged above the gap and pref. the upper clamping plate has a ramp portion which guides the yarn to enter between the clamping plates.
