Abstract

Cpd. with recurring units (where R' is a satisfied single bond or O,S,SO2 or CH2 and n is sufficiently large for a 2.5 g soln. of the product in 150 ml DMF to have an inherent viscosity of 0.5 at room temp.) is used as thermostable binder for polyimide films, the bonds being strong anf free from bubbles. The cpds. are made by the reaction of quaternary esters (ROOC)2 Ph-C(=O)-Ph(COOR)2 (the esters gps. being m and p to the C=O, R is Me, Et, Prop, But) with a tetramine (H2N)2 PH-R'-Ph(NH2)2 (where the amino gps. are vicinal on each ring) at 180 degrees C for 80 mins.
