Abstract

Soft cheese, wholly or partially drained, is carried up as a relatively thick layer on a belt elevator at the top of which a short feeder belt running on two rollers, projects freely over the hopper of the portion shaping/packing machine. Over this belt and normal to its surface are a number of pairs of symmetrical converging guide walls with adjustable spacing and angle of convergence which divide the cheese layer lengthwise. The feeder allows the free fall of the cheese to be reduced so lessening the distortion of its grain structure.
