Abstract
Laxative compsns. contg. as active component a Mg chelate of an aliphatic amide of formula: R.CO.N. CH. CO2H (where R is an opt. unsatd. opt. branched 10-22C aliphatic acid residue; R1,R2 = H or acyl) have a rapid action when in contact with the terminal part of the large intestine. The chelates are almost insoluble in water at pH 5.5 to 8 and are usually suspended in polyoxyethylene gelled with agar or polymeric agents.
