Abstract

Silver halide emulsion, with an active content of 30-200 mg/dm2 is centrifuged directly onto a ferromagnetic stainless steel sheet carrier to form a film 1-3 cm long and 0.10-0.30 mm thick, the sheet metal being 0.1-1.0 mm thick esp. 0.5 mm. The edges of the sheet metal are folded over to form automatically fixed spacers from the surface onto which it is lowered. It is mounted on a massive piston within a cylinder whose base is fixed to a massive plate above a corresponding aperture across which is a sliding shutter with a spring indexing ball. When the shutter is closed, the film holder folded edges rest on it to protect the emulsion. Elimination of gelatine film base increases sensitivity.
