Abstract

An apparatus in which consecutive samples of a liq. e.g. blood, are drawn into a chamber, while a measured quantity of another liq. (e.g. as diluent or reagent) is drawn into a second chamber, so that both liq. may be expelled in combination for mixing, has a plunger which applies momentary pressure to exit tube, at end of expulsion stage, thus introducing an airlock, preventing contamination of next sample when drawn in. The chambers may comprise syringes both activated by a cross arm attached to a piston shaft driven by an electric motor with reduction gearing, the stroke of each syringe being independently variable by adjusting collets on the syringe shafts which slide in bushes through cross arm. The plunger to produce air-lock can also be attached to cross arm, so that it compresses a flexible region to outlet tube, at end of piston stroke.
