Abstract

In the title process a 6-arylacetamido penicillin S-oxide is brominated esp. wtih Br2 an N-bromoimide or an N-b romamide under the initiation of a free radical and opt. the 6-alpha-bromo-6-arylacetam ido penicillin S-oxide is converted to cephalosporin and/or the bromine atom replaced by a nucleophilic group and/or > s right arrow O reduced to > S with the liberation of any blocked carboxylic acid grps. The reactions subsequential to bromination are effected by conventional means
