Abstract

Agent contains as active ingredient at least one water sol. salt of a base of small molecular size with a polymeric material contg. acidic groups which is not or only difficultly cleavable by enzymes and which has an av. molecular size of at least 100 angstroms (pref. ammonium salt of polyacrylic acid of mean mol. wt. 1 x 103 to 2 x 106), the concn. of this salt in the agent being such that it produces a pH is not 9 at the other side of a donnan membrane which is impermeable to the polymer. The agent may e.g. be in the form of a toothpaste or of a chewing gum. Alternatively, the polymer salt may be added to foods or delicacies so as to render them non-cariogenic.
