Abstract

Cellulose-based sheets with an improved softness are produced from a starting material consisting of (I) cellulose fibres, (II) an agent for breaking the fibre bonds, esp. an anionic or cationic surfactant, (III) a resin, esp. an acrylic emulsion or an anionic styrene-butadiene latex, and (IV) an agent for promoting the deposition of (III) when (II) is an anionic surfactant. Used for prodn. of prods. such as hand towels and napkins. The sheets combine good softness with a high strength, and can be produced on conventional equipment.
