Abstract

Redn. of oxides of nitrogen and unburnt hydrocarbon content of exhaust gases from a motor vehicle internal combustion engine with an inlet manifold and a distributor with ignition advance actuated by suction, by recycling a portion of the engine exhaust gases to the inlet manifold, the recirculation being initiated when the speed of the vehicle reaches a first pre-determined speed and being maintained as long as the speed is above a second pre-determined speed, by suppressing the suction induced advance of the ignition and in turn interrupting the recycling of a part of the exhaust gases.
