Abstract

Polyvinyl chloride resin compsn of good initial colour, transparency and storage stability used for packaging foodstuffs, are stabilised against heat by incorporation, before use of a stabilising system comprising >=1 organic zinc salt, >=1 organic ca salt and a polyvinyl alcohol, this system being used in amt. 0.1-5% pref. 0.3-1.5% by wt of the resin. Suitable Zn salts are the laurate, benzoate or mixed fatty acid salts Ca salts comprise the stearate or mixed fatty acid salts. Pref. the polyvinyl alcohols have an ester value of 20-300, esp. 125-270, specif. 270, and a viscosity at 20 degrees C as a 4% aqs. soln of 4-60 cps. pref. 5 cpds.
