Abstract

Gas-producing device comprises a metal reservoir, contg. gas liquefied under moderate pressure, which is rapidly vaporised, by an electrically ignited explosive charge, opens reservoir, which may be in two section sheld together by a ring-clip, and expands to high volume. The reservoir may be enclosed in an outer plastic container, the space between reservoir exterior and casing providing annular expansion passage to ensur homogeneity of fluid. The device is light, compact, cheap and not susceptible to breakage through shock, applications include inflatable life-raftS, airbags for motor vehicle safety restraint, ejector seats and aerospace uses.
