Abstract

The reactor core-chamber is filled with a primary fluid which flows in a closed circuit to a heat exchange element surrounded by a secondary fluid in a transfer chamber which is separated from the core-chamber by a leak-proof wall, and in which the pressure is lower than in the core-chamber. Water may be used as the secondary fluid, thereby protecting the transfer chamber walls against neutron radiation from the primary fluid. The primary fluid stays in a closed circuit and does not contact the transfer chamber walls. The reactor is safer and easier to service than previous designs and suitable for power station steam-raising.
