Abstract

Prepn. of imide anhydride copolymers by a first step involving forming diacids from trimellitic acid and opt. substd. aromatic araliphatic diamines in a 2:1 proportion in soln., the first phase of the reaction giving acid amides which form rings by later treatment at 200-250 degrees C so as to give diacids having preformed imide rings. The acids are then reacted with acetic anhydride in a second step to give polyanhydrides. The polymers have good thermal stability and stability to hydrolysis. They also have good electrical properties.
