Abstract

The deck structure/platform is mounted on the tops of the vertical caissons at least some of which have streamlined sponsons which can be turned about vertical pivots to minimise drag. The sponsons contain steering and propulsion gear and opt. conventional water ballast takns, enabling the rig to maintain station even in deep water without the need for anchors and enabling immersion depth to be controlled.
