Abstract

Viscometer esp. for molten glass comprising a balance beam on one of which is suspended a ball plunging into the material which is to be measured and as the other side a balance pan and weights and method of observing the rate of movement of the ball due to moving the weights after achieving equilibrium characterised in that the observation means comprises a flap carried on the end of a needle fixed to the balance beam and having a window passing in front of a photoelectric cell when the balance is not in equilibrium. The time between transits of the needle across the higher beam to the photoelectric cell is measured electronically. Thus an accurate measure of the viscosity changes with time can be recorded.
