Abstract

Method of improving the cohesion of mixtures of sand or gravel, granulated slag and basic activation agent used in road making without modifying its setting time comprises adding 0.3-15 p.b.w. non hydrophobic silicate to 100 p.b.w. of a mixture comprising 65-90% sand or gravel, 10-35% blast furnace slag and 1-2 p.b.w. strong base, esp. fat lime, (slaked or quicklime). The siliate additive surrounds the grains producing a viscous layer which improves the seven day strength.
