Abstract

Pieces of combustible material are formed into a moving bed, in which the individual pieces remain stationary relative to each other. Heated particles of another material are passed through the bed, so that the individual pieces of combustible material are heated by heat transfer. Specifically, the heated particles are collected after use, reheated and used again. The combustible material may be e.g. coal, coke, or charcoal briquettes.
