Abstract

Paper pulp is produced from fibrous, non-wood lignocellulosic plant material, which has been wetted and formed into an aqs. slurry. This is wet depithed by a shredding operation, and the resultant slurry of pith and fibre diluted, and the pith sepd. by screening. The fibre slurry is partially dewatered and impregnated with an alkaline hydroxide soln. and finally digested at elevated temp. and press. Spec. the raw material is a sugar cane bagasse wetted with black liquor. Pulp suitable fro the mfe. of commercial grade paper or for combination with mech. or chem. wood pulps, is obtained efficiently and economically without using sophisticated, expensive appts. and multistage processes.
