Abstract
Process for benozodiazepines and indole intermediates. Compds (I) useful as muscle relaxants, antispasmodics, anticonvulsants and hypnotics are prepd. in high yield by oxidising compds (II): i.e. (where R1 and R2 are H, halogen, 1-4C alkoxy, CF3 or NO2, and n is 1-4.) The process may be combined with other stages in which (II) is prepd. by reduction of (III) in turn prepd. by condensation of (IV) with an ester of HOCn-1 H2(n- 1) R3: (where R3 is 1-4C-alkyl OCO, COOH, HOCH2, 1-4C alkyl- COOCH2.
