Abstract
In the final stages of U-extraction from ores, the higher oxides are reduced to UO2 by gravity feed and countercurrent to a stream of cracked NH3. The freshly formed UO2 is immediately contacted with gaseous HF to form UF4. the flow of cracked NH4 is controlled to maintain the temp. of the UO2 in a range favourable for the equilibrium fluorination reaction.
