Abstract
A mixture of 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene, NaOH and MeOH are heated. Aq. NaOH is added, the mixture is heated then cooled MeOH is removed, and 2,4,5-trichlorophenol is isolated (pref. by acidification and chloroform extraction). M.pt. of the product may be ca. 64 degrees C. and the yield may be at least 97%.
