Abstract

Process for rearrangement of a halogenosilane (I) pref. containing a Si-H bound, by contacting (I) above or in mixture with other cpds. (I) with a tert. amine hydrohalide (II) of formula: NRR1R2.HX (where R, R2 = is not 3C monovalent hydrocarbyl or together R, R1 = is not 4C divalent alkylene, diethylene oxide; R2 = is not 2C monovalent hydrocarbyl provided that R + R2 = is not 8C; and X = halogen). Pref. silane (I) is HSiCl3 rearranged to H2SiCl2 and catalyst (II) is Bu3NH+Cl-.
