Abstract

The new title cpd. of formula (I):- and its acid addition salts with amines of formula R1NR2R3 in which R1, R2 and R3 are H or 1-4C alkyl, or NR2R3 may form a hexagonal or heptagonal ring opt. contng. O, S or additional M atoms, may be used as selective or total herbicides. (I) is prepared by reacting 3-(N-methyl-N-ethylamino)-propionitrile with Cl2 to give 4,5-dichloro-2-trichloromethyl-pyrimidine (a new cpds.), which gives (I) when treated with an aq. acid at 70-130 degrees C.
