Abstract
Controlled atmospheres for metallurgical furnaces To increase to CO/CO2 ratios in the atmosphere formed, at least certain fractions of the combustible gaseous mixture are preheated prior to combustion. To avoid the formation of methane during combustion, the combustion and preheating conditions and the air factor are selected to achieve a combustion chamber inner wall temp. higher than a critical temp. of approx. 1200 degrees C. Simultaneously, raising the air factor is avoided until traces of unreacted oxygen appear.
