Abstract
Al is produced continuously by heating the charge consisting of Al2O3 and C to 2100 - 2500 degrees, cooling the molten mixture of Al and Al carbide to 1900 - 1400 degrees C, and separating molten Al from the solid Al carbide, the latter remaining in the furnace. Further Al2O3 and C are added to the remaining charge in the furnace which is again heated to 2100 - 2500 degrees C, the process being repeated.
