Abstract
Linear polyesters, stable to heat, able to form fibres, with good dye retention and from which oil stains are easily removed, are made preferably from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol with a small addition of 0.20 to 3.0 moles, preferably 0.75 to 2 moles per 100 moles of polyester, of a compound of formula:- R-O-(G-O)x-H (in which R is C8-12 alkyl; G is a hydrocarbon radical, such as ethylene or propylene, or mixtures; x is 9 to 20). The polyester may be modified by tetravalent branching agents, preferably pentaerythritol, up to 0.45 moles % or trivalent branching agents, preferably trimeric acid, up to 0.7 moles %.
