Abstract

The ring, formed of a number of segments and forming a small collar on the nose is cooled by sectors through which water circulates, located under the ring. They are fastened to the converter by bolting onto a flange on the outside of the converter and the ring is also bolted independently to this flange. The inside of the sectors are parallel to the ring, but the outside is inclined downwards to form a skirt around the converter. A system of tubes for circulation of water run through the sectors. The ring may easily be removed from the nost for replacement without necessitating removal of the cooling system.
