Abstract
A tube to be HF longitudinally welded has the edges of the gap to be welded preheated by at least two conductors which are longitudinally oriented w.r.t. the gap and situated close to it. The conductors are part of a medium frequency induction heater whose field penetrates equally into the gap, and are disposed on the inner and outer faces of the tube close to an edge of the gap and those on the same side of the gap have current force in like directions. The system applies esp. to HF welding tubes whose wall thickness is >5mm.
