Abstract

Cushions, mattresses and seat backs consisting of an internal core pref. of expanded polyurethane entirely embedded in an external shell of foamed latex rubber or similar material having a different density from the core, are produced by (a) pouring into a mould approx. half the quantity of the unvulcanised latex foam and/or the unexpanded polyurethane, (b) fixing in the internal core space the material having a different density from the outer shell by means of an assembly of axial and longitudinal supports whose longitudinal centre lines are when the mould is closed, parallel to the plane of the base and to the plane of the mould cover, and pref. are spaced equally from the two planes, (c) pouring into the mould the second half of the quantity of the unvulcanised latex foam, and (d) closing the mould and vulcanising the latex foam, or polymerising and expanding the synthetic foam material.
