Abstract

Process for preparing pyromellitic dianhydride by catalytic oxidation of durene in the gaseous phase by air in which the concn. of durene in the air is 5-50g/cm3 (normal conditions) and in which the condensation of the resulting gaseous reaction products is carried out at 130-180 degrees C pref. 140-160 degrees C. During the condensation of cooling gas, pref. air is introduced in an amount of 1.0-1:1 based on the amount of air used in the reaction.
