Abstract

Epoxides are prepd. in the liquid phase in the presence of a cpd. of formula MO5AA' (M is W or Mo; A and A' are indep. chosen from (a) cpds. of formula R-CO-NR2R3 or R4R5N-CO-NR6R7; R1 is H or 1-20C monovalent hydrocarbon, R2-R7 are indep. and are each 1-20 monovalent hydrocarbons or together are a 5-20C divalent radical contg. 0-2, O,S NH or N-alkyl groups (b) or cpd. of formula (R8-13 are indep. 1-20C monovalent hydrocarbons, R8, R10,R11 may also be bound to R9,R10,R13 in which case R8-R13 are the same as R2-R7 (c) is a pyridine, oxide opt. substd. by one or more 1-5C hydrocarbons or (d) a N-contg. heterocyclic radical contg. N atoms and 5-20C). The process is carried out in the presence of a mixed solvent comprising two component chosen from (i) a 1-20C aliphatic or aromatic (poly)alcohol comprising >=1 primary, sec. or tert. alcohol function, 3-10C sat. ketone and a 1-20C ether alcohol and (ii) A or A' as defined above.
