Abstract

The cleaning process is intended for filters for liquids, notably for liq. foodstuffs such as wine, beer, cider, fruit juices, etc., in which filtration is effected by means of pre-coated filter elements. The pre-coat, which constitutes the filtering medium, consists of infusorial earth or diatomite and is maintained by the continuous addition of such material. The filter elements rapidly become clogged, particularly with the dregs inthe cae of liq. foodstuffs. A gaseous fluid, such as air or an inert gas, is projected on the deposits formed on the filter elements; the deposits become detached and are then evacuated in the dry or slightly moist state. The deposits in this condition can easily be handled and can be sent, for example, to a tip.
