Abstract
A stack of the pellets are separated inside an elongated sheath, into short sections by flat graphite discs in thermal contact with the sheath. The rod is for use vertically upright in conditions in which the fuel reaches melting point in the middle of the rod. The discs are pref. spaced closer together in the zone of maximum neutron flux in the rod.
