Abstract

Impure water contng. bicarbonates is desalinated by passing successively through 4 filters, the first provided with a cation exchange resin in H+ form, the second a weakly basic anion exchange resin in HCO3-form, the third a cation exchange resin in H+ form, and the fourth a weakly basic anion exchange resin in OH- form. The process is esp. suitable for desalinating water contng. a high concn. of salts (up to 3000 mg salts/1. water). The consumption of regenerating agent is low and the ion-exchange capacity high.
