Abstract

S powder, pref. with >=60 (60-80)% powder consisting of particles =2 mu in size, is used as fungus-growth inhibitor in process for improving properties and fungus growth resistance of bottle corks by impregnation with liquid vehicle containing inhibitor from which solid is separated and deposited with inhibitor inside cork cavities, followed by removal of vehicle by draining and evaporation. Pref. liquid vehicle contains 3-9 (6) g/l S, and consists of a volatile solvent for cellulose derivs., contg. 30 g/l. cellulose deriv., or pref. water containing a synthetic resin emulsion. Treated corks can be stored, are non-toxic, and are mainly used for wine-bottles.
